P.R.O.T.E.C.T. Program
Background
The P.R.O.T.E.C.T. (Public Resources Organizing to End Crime Together) Program was established by Senate Bill 929 (2020), Chapter 20 of the Acts of 2021.
The program is administered by the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention and Policy to bring together state, local, and community resources to:
- Reduce crime and improve public safety in communities with high crime rates.
- Support comprehensive, community-based crime reduction strategies.
- Strengthen neighborhoods and address conditions that contribute to crime.
- Ensure local law enforcement officers are focused on public safety responsibilities.
Community Coordinators
P.R.O.T.E.C.T. coordinators connect residents with available services and benefits, support community improvement projects, and help develop local initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods.
Working in partnership with the local law enforcement agency serving the community, coordinators:
- Promote the use of available crime prevention programs and grant opportunities.
- Coordinate community and youth programs.
- Support community-led efforts to reclaim and improve public spaces.
- Help coordinate responses to public nuisances.
- Strengthen communication and engagement between community members and local law enforcement.
