Data Dashboards
The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy uses Microsoft Power BI to turn complex data into interactive dashboards. These dashboards support informed policy decisions, promote transparency, and allow policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and the public to explore and analyze Maryland data. The Office works with local, state, and federal organizations to collect, analyze, and present data through existing memorandums and legislative requirements. The Office also provides an interactive grant map showing Maryland organizations that are active subrecipients of its grant awards. The U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics supports several of the projects below through the State Justice Statistics Program.

The Office facilitates statewide crime data analysis and sharing to generate effective policies and solutions.

Law Enforcement
The Office works with law enforcement agencies to facilitate data collection efforts to increase public safety, increase accountability, promote transparency, and ensure compliance with mandated requirements.

Youth Justice
The Office receives data from public health and public safety partners, as well as open-source resources, to provide insight on the overall well-being of youth and families in Maryland and youth interacting with the criminal justice system.
Corrections
We work with local correctional facilities to make sure they submit required reports. We also share results from the Justice Reinvestment Initiative. This national project uses data to keep the public safe and spend less money on corrections. Then, we use those savings to fund programs that stop crime and help people stay out of jail.
Courts
The Office utilizes data collected from the Maryland Judiciary Case Search, a public resource to access court records from the Maryland Judiciary, to provide transparency on trends in case outcomes and criminal charges.
Behavioral Health
The Centers of Excellence advise the Office on efforts that support Maryland communities in improving the criminal justice system’s response to individuals with substance use disorders and mental illness. Their efforts aim to reduce the incarceration of individuals with behavioral health needs and strengthen connections to appropriate treatment services. In this role, the Centers collaborate with state and local partners to complete jurisdictional Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) mapping reports and to implement crisis intervention model programs.
To further support this work, the National Drug Use Dashboard will soon be available to show how drug use is changing across the state. This information helps us improve how we support and treat people who need mental health or substance use care.
