Maryland Statistical Analysis Center

The Maryland Statistical Analysis Center (MSAC) resides within the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy to facilitate statewide crime data analysis and sharing to generate effective local policies and solutions. The Center works within the Office to support State’s public safety priorities with data and research. The Center plays a vital role in collecting and analyzing Statewide criminal justice statistics to support evidence-based policies and practices.

The Center is part of a network of 51 Statistical Analysis Centers (SACs) located throughout the U.S., and supported by the Justice Information Resource Network (JIRN), previously known as the Justice Research and Statistics Association (JRSA), and the State Justice Statistics Program grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS).

Legislative Reports

At the direction of the General Assembly and the Governor, and in partnership with public safety agencies, including law enforcement and state’s attorneys, public health agencies, and advocates, the Center develops guidance for collecting and submitting criminal justice data. The Center submits all legislatively required reports and publications in accordance with the law, on a semi-annual, annual, bi-annual, or one-time basis.
