Restitution Workgroup
The Justice Reinvestment Act (Chapter 515 of the Acts of 2016 - PDF - 2.42 MB) identified victim restitution as a key part of restorative justice.
In its 2019 One-Time Victim Services Report on Restitution - PDF, the Justice Reinvestment Oversight Board found that Maryland's victim restitution system would benefit from additional review and improvement.
Although the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, through the Department of Parole and Probation, is responsible for collecting most restitution payments, the Justice Reinvestment Act assigns the Justice Reinvestment Oversight Board responsibility for evaluating the system and recommending improvements.
