Forensic Genetic Genealogical DNA Analysis and Search (FGGS)

Section 17-105 of the Maryland Criminal Procedure Article requires the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention and Policy to prepare and submit an annual report on Forensic Genetic Genealogical DNA Analysis and Search (FGGS) requests.

The law also requires the Office to work with a panel of stakeholders that reviews the annual report and makes recommendations on policies related to the use of FGGS.

Panel Members

The panel is composed of judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, public defenders, law enforcement officials, crime laboratory directors, bioethicists, racial justice experts, criminal justice researchers, civil and privacy rights organizations, and organizations representing families impacted by the criminal justice system; and is staffed by the Office.
