Become a Grant Application Peer Reviewer

The Governor's Office of Crime Prevention and Policy accepts applications on a rolling basis for grant application peer reviewers.

Peer reviewers are selected based on their knowledge, skills, and professional expertise. Reviewers help evaluate grant applications that support programs related to criminal and juvenile justice, public safety, behavioral health, child well-being, crime prevention, and victim services across Maryland.

What to Expect

If selected as a peer reviewer:

• You will typically review and score approximately 10 applications for each assigned grant program.
• You will have up to 21 days to complete your assigned reviews and submit your scores.

To be considered, complete the Grant Peer Reviewer Application.

Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Peer Reviewer Commitments

Peer reviewers may be asked to:

• Complete an orientation before reviewing applications. The orientation explains the reviewer's role and responsibilities, the purpose of the grant program, and the peer review process. Reviewers will also have an opportunity to ask questions.
• Participate in a peer review discussion. After independently reviewing and scoring applications, reviewers may be asked to meet with other peer reviewers to discuss each application's strengths and areas for improvement.

Please note: Peer reviewers serve on a volunteer basis and are not compensated.

Grant Review Periods

Most peer reviews take place during the following periods:

• State grant programs: Mid-April through mid-June
• Federal grant programs: Late July through mid-September
