Gun Violence Reduction Grant (GVRG)
Description
Grant funds assist law enforcement agencies and/or prosecutors who have a demonstrated need, combined with a viable plan to address firearms related violence in their jurisdictions.
History
The Responsible Gun Safety Act of 2000 established the Maryland Cease Fire Council, chaired by the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, to assist in establishing programs designed to reduce firearms-related crime. Since the Responsible Gun Safety Act of 2000 was established, the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services has worked in conjunction with the Cease Fire Council in awarding grant funds.
