Police Recruitment and Retention Grant Program (PRAR)

Description

The primary purpose of the Police Recruitment & Retention (PRAR) program is to provide funding to local and state law enforcement agencies to recruit and retain qualified sworn police officers.

History

The Police Recruitment and Retention grant provides funding to enhance local police recruitment and retention efforts. Law enforcement officers are considered first responders and as such, are the first to respond to the scene of an accident or emergency. Therefore, it is critical to ensure law enforcement agencies have adequate staffing to complete their mission which will aid the State in making a safer Maryland. The funding may be used for hiring bonuses, retention incentives, tuition reimbursement and health incentives.
