National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

Background

Since 1981, National Crime Victims' Rights Week has recognized the rights and needs of crime victims while highlighting the importance of victim services and community support. It is an opportunity to honor the individuals and organizations that serve victims and to recognize the strength and resilience of victims and survivors.

Each spring, victim service providers, criminal justice professionals, and community advocates across Maryland come together to recognize progress in advancing victims' rights, reflect on the past year's achievements, and reaffirm their commitment to supporting victims and survivors.

National Crime Victims' Rights Week 2026 will be observed April 19–25, 2026.

Annual Memorial Services for Crime Victims and Their Families

Each year, memorial services mark the beginning of Maryland's observance of National Crime Victims' Rights Week. The services include guest speakers, musical performances, and time for reflection.

During the ceremonies, family members and victim advocates read the names of more than 4,000 Maryland victims of homicide, vehicular manslaughter, and long-term missing persons.

The 36th Annual Memorial Services for Crime Victims and Their Families will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

Register a Loved One's Name

You may register your loved one's name to be read each year during the Memorial Services for Crime Victims and Their Families. When you register, you will also receive an invitation to future memorial services.

To register, complete the Crime Victim Registration Form, available in English and Spanish, and mail or email it to:

After your loved one's name is added, you do not need to register again. The name will remain on the memorial list permanently.
