Calvert County
Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) Mapping
In November 2023, the Centers of Excellence facilitated a SIM mapping workshop in Calvert County with stakeholders from the behavioral health and criminal legal systems. The workshop produced a SIM map (below) and an accompanying report, illustrating how adults with behavioral health needs may come into contact with and move through the criminal legal system.
Through the workshop, participants identified resources and gaps at each intercept. They also identified priorities for change in the county. Based on a voting process that allowed each participant three votes, the top three priorities included the following:
- Address the concern of limited access to housing and the lack of housing assistance/support.
- Improve community collaboration to enhance response to, and treatment of, justice-involved individuals with behavioral health needs.
- Seek trauma-informed and crisis intervention-related training opportunities for public safety and volunteers.
