Charles County
Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) Mapping
In February 2024, the Centers of Excellence facilitated a SIM mapping workshop in Charles County with stakeholders from the behavioral health and criminal legal systems. The workshop produced a SIM map (below) and an accompanying report, illustrating how adults with behavioral health needs may come into contact with and move through the criminal legal system.
Through the workshop, participants identified resources and gaps at each intercept. They also identified priorities for change in the county. Based on a voting process that allowed each participant three votes, the top three priorities included the following:
- Implement additional crisis services within each jurisdiction.
- Enhance “resource networking,” an umbrella term used within the workshop to recognize the importance of promoting resources with community members and across agencies.
- Address the lack of housing options for individuals with behavioral health needs.
